Heavenly Match

A match made in heaven, that’s how it seems
As she promises to fulfill your dreams
I gave what I had, it wasn’t enough
But my life with you has always been tough

Deep down inside I’m so happy you’re gone
To a place not here because here is wrong
The deepest thorn just got pulled from my side
The wound will heal quickly then I’ll be fine

You’re with your new love who’s taking the lead
Fanning your flames and fulfilling your dreams
I hope in your favor, the cards are stacked
Standing firm, I say, “You’re not welcome back!”

I’m now moving on with fewer regrets
The scar will stay but the pain I’ll forget
I’m content right here, learned a great lesson
As you enjoy this match made in heaven

Don't Fear

Snuggling here with her, time was running short
Her thoughts meander, “Where’d this nightmare start?
I want to recall time, before today
A time we were happy, all was okay”

She whispered, “I love you,” through a deep sigh
Then snuggled closer to her dying wife
They had met quite by chance at a trade show
And shared a taxi because of the snow

There was a certain comfort that felt right
They ended up talking late in the night
Their friendship blossomed into a romance
In no-time they were making lifetime plans

They got married when the law said they could
They were both happy, everything was good
Then the crushing news that changed everything
Hoping, praying didn’t change anything

The last few breaths as she holds her love near
She feels me close as I whisper, “Don’t fear”
Then I lift her love out of her embrace
As tears of anguish rush over her face

Her wife’s now free from mortal suffering
Now, with our help, her healing can begin
We tap on her shoulder when she’s asleep
And they’re together, again, in her dreams
